Routeways to Work

Organised by Papworth Trust

Where young people and adults with learning disabilities and neurodiversity, experience hands on learning in Cambridge's OWL Bikes. This experience helps individuals develop their employability skills to work towards achieving their aspirations.

We, at Papworth Trust provide support and opportunities for disabled people across East Anglia. Our services focus on vital support in housing, care, work and day opportunities as they are areas where we see disabled people experiencing the greatest disadvantage. www.papworthtrust.org.uk

Story

Kurt joined Routeways to Work in Autumn 2024. When asked about the skills he's already developed in the last couple of months since joining the programme he listed how he has improved his customer service skills, learnt how to strip a bike and fix a puncture.

Kurt told us what he enjoys most about Routeways to Work:

There's a good team of people at Routeways to Work. It's good, you learn about lots of things not just bikes, you get help with CVs. I'm doing a CV with Fleur (the advisor) so I can use it in the future. It's not just working on bikes but all about the next steps".

Since joining Routeways to Work, the team have seen a real boost in Kurt's confidence. He is displaying real empathy in the workshop which helps him be a strong team member, supporting and learning from other participants.

This positive difference has only be made possible because of the fundraised programme, Routeways to Work.
